Central Michigan: Chippewas Choose Bruin Assistant

Chippewas Choose Bruin Assistant: Central Michigan filled one of the few remaining head coaching jobs by hiring UCLA assistant coach Ernie Zeigler. He comes to the Chippewas after working for Ben Howland for the past five seasons at UCLA and Pittsburgh. Zeigler hails from the Detroit area and coached at a city high school for six years in the early 1990s. Zeigler replaces Jay Smith, who resigned after nine seasons as the Chippewas’ coach. The Central Michigan job is Zeigler’s first crack at a head coaching gig. In addition to working for Howland, he has been an assistant at Kansas State and Bowling Green. [7/06/06]
