Barnes Gets Long Money: Texas showed coach Rick Barnes the money to ensure that he remains satisfied in Austin. School officials gave Barnes a $500,000 raise, lifting his annual salary to $1.8 million. He can also earn larger bonuses than before for his players’ academic and competitive success. Barnes has turned the Longhorns into a perennial championship contender. He arrived at Texas in 1998, and the team has reached the NCAA Tournament every season since. [7/19/06]
