Assistant Coach Becomes Tigers’ Rival: UTEP has hired Memphis assistant coach Tony Barbee to replace Doc Sadler, who left the school last week to accept Nebraska’s coaching job. Barbee leaves Conference USA’s dominant team to lead one of the conference’s up-and-coming members. He learned from one of the better coaches in the game, John Calipari, as an assistant at Memphis and as a player on Calipari’s Massachusetts teams of the early 1990s. [8/16/06]
