NCAA Says Arkansas Freshman Can Play: The NCAA declared Arkansas freshman Michael Washington academically eligible by the NCAA on Oct. 5, ending the waiting game for the Razorbacks and their highly touted freshman standout. “Obviously, there is a lot of excitement because this part of the process has been completed,” Arkansas coach Stan Heath said. “We’re happy for Michael because one hurdle has been cleared.”
The next hurdle appears to be the SEC, which is currently reviewing the case. Washington was a standout at Genesis One Christian School in Mendenhall, Miss., last season, averaging 31.6 points, 14.8 rebounds and nine blocked shots per game.
