Spartans to Honor 2000 MVP: Michigan State announced Tuesday that it will retire former All-American Mateen Cleaves’ No 12 jersey. Cleaves, the all-time assists leader in Big Ten history, was most valuable player of the 2000 national champion Spartans and their only three-time All-American. He was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the first round of that year’s NBA draft. Cleaves is 12th in scoring in Michigan State’s history with 1,541 points. In his four years with the team, the Spartans had a 104-32 record. [2/01/07]
