Santa Clara: Davey Not a Part of Santa Clara’s Future

Davey Not a Part of Santa Clara’s Future: Beloved Santa Clara coach Dick Davey will call it quits after completing his 15th season with the Broncos. Davey was not ready to step down, but Broncos athletic director Dan Coonan is ready to think of the team’s long-term future, which does not include Davey. The longtime coach has been offered a fundraising job at Santa Clara. So far there is no replacement, but among the top candidates for head coach is former Stanford and Golden State Warriors coach Mike Montgomery. Under Davey, the Broncos have a record of 245-187 and have been to the NCAA Tournament three times. [2/03/07]
