Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Semifinals: No. 1 East Tennessee State survived an impressive effort by No. 4 Lipscomb, winning 77-72 to earn a spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference championship game Saturday. Sophomore guard Courtney Pigram led the Bucs with 21 points, including two three-pointers to bookend halftime and give East Tennessee State the lead. The Bisons had an opportunity to tie the game in the closing minutes but couldn’t hit a free throw to pull even. East Tennnessee State will play No. 2 Belmont in the championship game Saturday.
Belmont took care of No. 6 Campbell 79-63 to earn a spot in the championship game and the right to defend its Atlantic Sun title. The Bruins built a double-digit lead as Justin Hare finished with 13 points. But the Camels made a second-half run to pull within six points. Belmont closed the door on Campbell with an 18-9 run that sealed the victory. [3/02/07]
