Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: No. 4 Siena beat No. 5 Manhattan 75-72 to earn a trip to the MAAC Tournament semifinals. The Saints have been on a roll entering the tournament, winning seven of their past eight games. Kenny Hasbrouck helped continue that run by scoring 20 points to lead Siena. The Saints will play No. 1 Marist in the semifinals. The Red Foxes beat No. 8 Canisius 87-63 by dominating the early minutes of the second half. The Golden Griffins put up a fight in the first half and trailed by only a dozen at the half. But Marist opened the second half with a 22-5 run to bury Canisius. The Golden Griffins committed 26 turnovers in the game.

No. 2 Niagara started the night session of the MAAC Tournament with a 77-52 win against No. 7 Rider. Junior guard Charron Fisher and senior guard Lorenzo Miles each posted double-doubles for Niagara to lead the Purple Eagles. Fisher had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Miles finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Junior forward Jason Thompson led Rider with 22 points in the losing effort. The Purple Eagles will play No. 3 Loyola, Md., in the semifinals after the Greyhounds beat No. 6 Fairfield 76-72. Loyola rallied from a four-point deficit in the final 10 minutes to win. Gerald Brown scored 20 points to lead the Greyhounds. The loss negated an outstanding second half by the Stags’ Michael Van Schaick, who scored 20 points after halftime. [3/03/07]
