Jamar Smith Pleads Guilty to DUI: Illinois’ Jamar Smith pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol in relation to an incident in which he crashed into a tree. The crash inflicted heavy injuries on fellow Illini team member Brian Carwell. Smith and Carwell, both 19, had been drinking. Smith’s blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. Smith has been sentenced to 15 days in Champaign County Jail to be followed by 24 months probation. He has also been ordered to serve 100 hours of public service, take 75 hours of substance-abuse classes, and pay $1,000. [5/26/07]
