Ohio State: Buckeyes’ Player Fined $250 for Shooting a Man

Buckeyes’ Player Fined $250 for Shooting a Man: Ohio State player David Lighty was fined $250 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge involving a jogger who was shot with a BB gun last year. The jogger, 55-year-old James Nugent, was struck by at least one plastic BB while trotting at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School’s track, Lighty’s old school. Nugent was not seriously hurt and said he had accepted Lighty’s apology. The 19-year-old, who started seven games for the Buckeyes in last year’s record-setting 35-4 season, also offered apologies to his family, community and school. Two of Lighty’s former high school teammates, Jimmy McLeod and Darryl Rushton, were also involved in the incident and pled guilty to disorderly conduct. They were each fined $100. [6/22/07]
