Pick Arkansas State’s New Mascot: Arkansas State has announced that it will ditch its Indians nickname and mascot and find a more ethnically sensitive name for its athletics teams. The university did not specify a time frame and is soliciting ideas. The school appointed a Mascot Review Committee, which unanimously decided that the Indians’ mascot had to go, especially after the NCAA labeled it a “hostile or abusive” mascot. Because Arkansas State is in violation of the hostile and abusive rule, it cannot host NCAA championship events. [7/26/07]
