Gonzaga: Bulldogs Give Heytvelt and Davis Second Chance

Bulldogs Give Heytvelt and Davis Second Chance: Gonzaga has reinstated Josh Heytvelt and Theo Davis eight months after police arrested them for possession of psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana and the school kicked them off the team. The two went beyond the terms of their required community service and passed all of their weekly drug tests. Heytvelt figures to be a critical part of the Bulldogs’ rotation this year as the team’s leading returning scorer. He was averaging more than 15 points per game last season before the Feb. 9 incident ended his season. Davis was a redshirt freshman last season and will have a fresh start to his career at Gonzaga.

Although Heytvelt is back on the team, he will be unavailable to practice with the Bulldogs for a week because of a sore right foot. Doctors recommended that he rests for a week to allow the “hot spot” to fully recover. [10/13/07]
