Kentucky: Gillispie Loses Key Freshman

Gillispie Loses Key Freshman: Kentucky freshman guard Alex Legion has decided to transfer to another school, leaving coach Billy Gillispie without one of the team’s major recruits. Legion is averaging 6.7 points and 17 minutes per game as a key member of Gillispie’s rotation. Legion was a highly regarded recruit who figured to be a centerpiece of the Wildcats program. Gillispie is in his first year at the helm at Kentucky after he replaced Tubby Smith this summer.

Update — Not Gone Yet?: SI.com has reported that Alex Legion might return to Kentucky. A source close to Legion told Seth Davis that the freshman guard might change his mind and decide to stick with the Wildcats. The source added that coach Billy Gillispie would be open to Legion’s return. Despite that report, the word from Kentucky would indicate that Legion is out. The team’s official roster does not include Legion, and the team has a press release on its Web site to announce his departure. [12/04/07]
