Memphis Remembers Dr. King: Rev. Jesse Jackson met with the Memphis Tigers before they left for San Antonio to share with them the importance of graduation and the civil rights struggle. He was in town to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Coach Calipari had already prepared the team with copies of King’s biography and had intended to read his final speech, “I Have A Dream.” Jackson expressed the joy that King would have had as his dreams have come into fruition.
