Lions Hire Trail Blazer Assistant: Loyola Marymount looked to the NBA to find its next coach. The Lions have hired Portland assistant Bill Bayno to succeed Rodney Tention, who led Loyola Marymount to a 5-26 record this past season. Bayno has worked at UNLV as the Rebels’ coach from 1995 to 2000. He was fired after allegations surfaced that he violated recruiting rules in courting Lamar Odom in 1997. But those allegations proved false, and Bayno won a settlement fro wrongful termination. In a little more than five years with the Rebels, Bayno led UNLV to a 96-65 record and two NCAA Tournament appearances. [4/05/08]
