IUPUI Will Deliver 200,000 Shoes to Nigeria: To raise awareness about poverty in Nigeria, IUPUI coach Ron Hunter has worked in conjunction with Samaritan’s Feet, a Charlotte-based charity, to collect nearly 200,000 pairs of shoes for Nigerian children. He jump-started the movement by going shoeless during the Jaguars’ Jan. 24 game against Oakland. The charity wants to send 1 million pairs of shoes this year and 10 million pairs in 10 years. Hunter and the team will depart July 25 to deliver the shoes, visit various locations in Nigeria and hold basketball clinics. [5/20/08]
