Illinois: Poor Economy Delays Illini’s Plans

Illinois officials decided that now is the wrong time to spend $121 million on a new basketball arena or major revisions to Assembly Hall. Officials planned to decide by the end of 2008 whether to renovate or replace the Illini’s home court. However, they anticipate a shortfall in fundraising caused by the soft economy. In addition, the university president asked the Illinois campuses to cut costs, and a massive expense on a new basketball court would not fit that order
