Weekend Roundup – February 7th

Connecticut 69, Michigan 61: The Huskies should hold on to the top spot in the polls after holding off the Wolverines.

Villanova 102, Syracuse 85:
The Wildcats remain hot with their fifth straight win in a game that was never very competitive.

West Virginia 86, Providence 59: Not what the doctor ordered for the Friars, who have now lost three straight.

UCLA 89, Notre Dame 63: The Irish continue to struggle, losing their seventh straight game, one that started at 10 a.m. local time.

Memphis 68, Gonzaga 50: Perhaps the best win of the year for the Tigers, who showed the nation just how good they are with this convincing road win.

California 71, Washington State 63: The Golden Bears get back on track with a sweep of the Washington schools.

Cincinnati 64, Georgetown 62 (OT): The Hoyas’ slide back to earth continues, as they are now 4-7 in the Big East with this home loss, their sixth in seven games.

Duke 78, Miami 75 (OT): It looked like the Blue Devils might be in for a repeat of the blowout at Clemson, as they trailed by 13 at the half, but a second-half rally kept that from happening.

Florida State 65, Clemson 61: A big road win for the Seminoles, who like Clemson are 5-3 in the ACC and are looking more and more like an NCAA Tournament team.

Kansas 78, Oklahoma State 67: It’s hard to believe this is the case, but the Jayhawks aren’t getting enough mention for what they’ve done.  They’re 8-0 in the Big 12 heading into two road games this week.

Kansas State 65, Texas A&M 60: The Wildcats continue their hot streak with their fifth straight win after losing their first four Big 12 games.

Nebraska 58, Texas 55: Suddenly, the Longhorns have lost three straight and are 4-4 in the Big 12.

Texas Tech 83, Baylor 76: Baylor’s slide continues, as they fall to 3-6 in Big 12 play with their fifth straight loss.

South Carolina 79, Georgia 68: The Bulldogs remain winless in SEC play at 0-8.

Arizona 87, Oregon 77: The Wildcats finally get above .500 in Pac-10 play at 6-5, while the Ducks fall further into the abyss at 0-11.

Utah 80, Wyoming 70: The Utes get a good road win to improve to 7-2 in the Mountain West.

Duquesne 72, Xavier 68: The first Atlantic 10 loss of the season is a big win for the young Dukes, who are quietly 6-3 in the conference.

George Washington 87, Fordham 62: This matchup is notable since it paired the two worst teams in the Atlantic 10.  The Colonials got their first win of the season, giving both teams identical 1-7 marks in Atlantic 10 play.

Rider 90, Siena 88: The first MAAC loss of the season for the Saints.

James Madison 68, George Mason 66: Don’t look now, but the Patriots have another team breathing down their neck for third place.

Utah State 60, Louisiana Tech 52: The Aggies’ winning streak is now at 18 games and they run their record to 23-1.

Santa Clara 70, Saint Mary’s 52:
I know it was on the road, but this was not a good loss for the Gaels.  It further drives home how valuable Patrick Mills is to this team.

College of Charleston 77, Davidson 75: Davidson’s 43-game conference winning streak ends as Stephen Curry’s last-second shot was blocked.

Boston University 67, New Hampshire 49: The Terriers continue to roll with this road win, having won eight straight since losing at home to Vermont – their next opponent.

Princeton 63, Columbia 35: Your Ivy League leader after the first two full weekends is… Princeton.  The Tigers improve to 4-0 with this home thrashing of the Lions, showing no letdown after a convincing win over Cornell a night earlier.
