Clemson: Purnell Earns Another Extension

An Associated Press report states that Clemson coach Oliver Purnell has agreed to stay with the Tigers through 2016. Purnell will sign a two-year extension that will boost his salary from $50,000 a year to $275,000.

The coach, who led Clemson to 23-win-plus seasons in three straight years, had already received a two-year extension in 2008. This new deal will bump his supplemental income to $1.075 million each year.

The Tigers have turned into one of the already-talent-stacked Atlantic Coast Conference’s top programs. In the ACC, only Duke and North Carolina have more wins than Clemson during the past three seasons. In 2009, the Tigers reached the NCAAs for a second year in a row. They lost to Michigan in the first round.
