Minnesota: Smith and University Sued by Would-be Gopher Assistant

Jimmy Williams has filed lawsuits against Minnesota and Golden Gophers coach Tubby Smith after he was denied an assistant coaching position in 2007, according to ESPN.com. Williams was an assistant coach at Oklahoma State in 2007 when Smith recruited him to come to Minnesota. According to the lawsuit, Smith offered him a position that would pay Williams $200,000 per year. However, the university rejected Williams’ employment. Williams was the Golden Gophers’ coach in the 1970s, when the university was named in several reports related to NCAA rules violations.
