Siena: Post-Concussion Syndrome Forces Magee Off the Court and Onto Bench

Siena senior forward Cory Magee has ended his playing career because of a post-concussion syndrome related to an injury he suffered during preseason workouts in 2008, according to a university release.

However, Magee will remain with the team because coach Fran McCaffery has offered him a student assistant coach position. Magee said he is disappointed to no longer be an on-court contributor to the Saints. Magee averaged 1.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game as a junior in 2007-08. But he said he looks forward to his new opportunity as student assistant coach.

“Although I’m obviously disappointed that my Siena playing career is over, I’m extremely happy to be given the opportunity by the College to serve as student assistant coach. I’m not sure if coaching is in my future, but it will be a great learning experience and I am looking forward to a fresh start. The toughest part with last year was that I did not know what the future would hold. Now I have a clear understanding of what my role will be.”
