Syracuse: Cuse Cruises to Boeheim’s 800th Victory

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim tallied career win No. 800 as the Orange opened the season with a 75-43 victory against Albany in the opening round of the 2K Sports Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. 

Boeheim is the eighth coach in men’s college basketball history to reach 800 wins. He is third among active coaches, trailing rival Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun and Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski. Former Army, Indiana and Texas Tech coach Bob Knight holds the record for career wins with 902. 

Syracuse bounced back after a loss to Division II LeMoyne last week in an exhibition game. The Orange dominated the the Great Danes, forcing 32 turnovers and holding Albany to 15 made shots from the field. Five Orange players reached double figures in scoring, led by senior forward Arinze Onuaku with 14 points.
