The NCAA has cleared Villanova freshman forward Mouphtaou Yarou to play this season after questions emerged about his age, according to ESPN.com’s Dana O’Neil.
The NCAA investigated Yarou’s eligibility after hearing about a news report that Yarou was listed as a player in an African Cup tournament in 2007, which would make him 25. Villanova provided Yarou’s birth certificate with other paperwork to prove that their key frontcourt newcomer is 19.
The Wildcats need Yarou on the court as much as possible to help mitigate the loss of Dante Cunningham, who graduated after last season’s Final Four run.
