Talking Hoops With Ted Sarandis – January 15, 2020

Welcome to the latest edition of Talking Hoops With Ted Sarandis. A lot has happened since our last podcast, especially on a busy Saturday that just passed but also on Tuesday night.

We begin by going back to the big story on Saturday, which was Clemson finally winning in Chapel Hill after 59 tries. If the Tigers didn’t do it this year, who knows if they would do so anytime soon, if ever. As if that wasn’t enough, they beat Duke at home on Tuesday night, which also makes Brad Brownell the winningest coach in school history. Now, amazingly, we have to talk about Clemson, as well as Virginia Tech, as potential NCAA Tournament teams, though both have a good deal of work to do as is the case for a few other ACC teams.

Staying with Saturday, we talk about Baylor, who won in Allen Fieldhouse for the first time and scored their first road win over a top five opponent. The Bears are continuing a great season, one which if it ended today should have them as the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament, and they’re doing it with Tristan Clark being a bit player as he is still working his way back from his knee injury last year. Also: is Big 12 expansion in the offing sooner rather than later?

From there, we quickly return to Saturday and the ACC for an oddity. As Syracuse beat Virginia in overtime in Charlottesville, the Orange did so by scoring more points in overtime than they did in the second half.

Tuesday night’s action then takes center stage, noting games like Kansas winning at Oklahoma without the injured Devon Dotson, Ohio State snapping a four-game losing streak without two suspended guards, Villanova beating hard-luck DePaul for the 19th straight time, and Dayton beating VCU, which leads us to talk more about the Atlantic 10.

Finally, we talk about UNCW firing C.B. McGrath on Monday and the larger picture of coaching jobs in the CAA since UNCW has been more down than up since they were riding high over a decade ago.

We hope you enjoy the podcast and share it with your fellow college basketball fans. Be sure to tune in again soon as we talk more about what’s happening in college basketball.
